MARTHA'S BROWNIES

LOIS' BROWNIES

CATEGORIES

The brownie throw down began when Grandpa Luken provided us with two family recipes to share with our viewers. After receiving the recipes, Maria and I thought it would be fun to do a little throw down family style - Grandpa Luken's mother's (Martha) brownie recipe vs. Grandpa Luken's sister's (Lois') recipe. See which one we liked the best along with a few extra "amateur" food critics. Enjoy!

Great Great Grandma Luken’s Brownies

Makes: 15 brownies
Prep: 10 minutes
Bake: 30 minutes

Cooling Time

Ingredients:
2 cups Sugar
1 cup Butter (softened)
4 Eggs
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
1/2 cup Cocoa Powder (unsweetened)
1 cup Hot Water
2 cups Flour
1/2 tsp Baking Powder
1/2 tsp Salt
1 cup Walnuts (optional)

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350˚F.

In a large bowl combine the sugar, softened butter and eggs, beat together until well combined. Add in the vanilla extract, cocoa powder, flour, baking powder and salt. Start the mixer and slowly add in the hot water while the mixers are going. (If you pour it in too fast the eggs will scramble.) Stir in the walnuts after all the ingredients are combined.

Spray a 13x9 baking dish with non-stick cooking spray and evenly pour in the brownie batter. Place baking dish into the oven and bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Take the brownies out of the oven and cool completely, then add on the chocolate frosting. (recipe below) Serve and Enjoy!
